As part of the implementation of the Inuktut Protection Act (IPA), organizations subject to the Act are required to demonstrate how they respect and uphold the linguistic rights of Nunavummiut.
To support this process, we are providing the Inuktut Language Plan (ILP) Template. This document enables organizations to:
- conduct an assessment of their current practices in providing services in Inuktut (signage, reception, customer and client services, advertising, invoicing, notices, etc.).
- develop concrete measures to improve the accessibility, visibility, and active offer of Inuktut services.
- establish clear timelines for the implementation of these measures.
- outline how the public will be informed about the availability of services in Inuktut.
- demonstrate how the organization will progressively meet its obligations under section 3 of the IPA.
Once completed, the Inuktut Language Plan must be submitted to the Office of the Languages Commissioner of Nunavut (OLCN), which is responsible for reviewing, approving, and monitoring the implementation of the plan.
